Single-engine plane crashes in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-engine plane crash near Fulton Road. Both the pilot and his passenger escaped with minor injuries.

The Wooster Post was called Wednesday about a plane crash that occurred in a soybean field near the residence of 1646 Fulton Road, Wayne County, Ohio.

When troopers arrived they said the was upside down in the field.

The pilot, Charles Marcum, 74, Lorain, was operating a Cherokee 140 single engine plane. Marcum said the engine stopped abruptly and he tried to land in an open field. After landing the plane flipped over coming to rest on the top of the plane.

Marcum had minor injuries.

The passenger, Vance Mansfield, 29, Lorain, Ohio was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The FAA was notified and is investigating.
