AVON, OH (WOIO) - Meijer superstores are coming to Northeast Ohio.

The grocery store chain is currently planning sites in Avon, Mentor, Stow, Austintown and Bainbridge Township, at the former Geauga Lake site. They also have property under contract in Lorain and Wooster.

A Meijer spokesperson said that the sites will open in 2019 at the earliest.

As a mother of three who tries to cook most meals at home, Cheryl Farris of Sandusky spends a good amount of time in grocery stores.

"I like grocery shopping, I know a lot of people don't," she said.

What she likes best about shopping at Meijer is one-stop shopping.

"When I can do my grocery shopping and other shopping in one store, that is amazing," she said.

Joe Richards of Sandusky said he has a friend in the Cleveland area who will drive an hour just to shop at Meijer.

"He says he's looking forward to the (stores) being built, and looking forward to not driving an hour anymore," Richards said.

Meijer currently has more than 40 stores in Ohio in the areas surrounding Toledo, Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati.

"You can come anytime, it's open 24 hours," said Randy Bailey of Huron.
