CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Police are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting on I-90 overnight in Cleveland. A 4-year-old boy was shot and in the head and rushed to the hospital.
According to Cleveland police, the child was in a vehicle with his mother and 7-year-old sister in a parking lot near West 28th Street and Division Avenue. Police say the woman honked her horn at a vehicle blocking the street. The woman claims she waited at least five minutes for the vehicle, but could not get by the stopped car. Eventually, the woman was able to get by.
The mother told police that the vehicle started following her onto the interstate around midnight and shot approximately eight gunshots at her on I-90 near Dead Man's Curve. Four of the gunshots hit the vehicle and one struck the child.
The woman found her 4-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Police say she exited the interstate at East 55th Street and contacted Cleveland EMS.
The child was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital for treatment and is in serious condition. He underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments. He is expected to make a recovery because the bullets did not penetrate his brain.
