'They took my baby', mother speaks out against suspects who shot her 9-year-old daughter
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - It is a loss hard for anyone to imagine, especially the parents of a beautiful, smart 9-year-old girl.
The parents of Saniyah Nicholson are picking up the pieces after she was caught in the crossfire of a gun battle on a city street on Cleveland's East Side.
"I never thought this would hit my home. That was my baby that was my baby. They took my baby," Marshanette Daniels said.
The loss is just as painful for her father Robert Nicholson.
He shared favorite pictures saying he talked to her only about 30 minutes before she was killed. With her gone, he can barely find the words, but the father has a message for the shooters.
"What they don't know is she was all I had, man. That's it. There's nothing else as you can see. There's just me," he said.
Police are looking for two men believed to have been on foot and who exchanged gunfire with men in a passing car.
At the shooting scene chalk circles mark the spots where a dozen shell casings were found.
"These kids with these guns, they're reckless," she said.
Family pictures show a little girl with a smile that could melt hearts.
Sadly, it can't mend broken ones.
Cleveland Police have announced a $20,000 reward in exchange for information that leads to the capture and prosecution of the shooters involved.
