CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A female Cuyahoga County jail corrections officer is on administrative leave pending an investigation, according to a spokeswoman for Cuyahoga County.

The corrections officer, who is in her 20s, is accused of "intimate" inappropriate behavior. She was just hired in February.

Mary Louise Madigan says this is the first alleged "intimate incident" reported between a jail corrections officer and an inmate known to county since gender cross over went into affect.

In January, federal law mandated gender cross over of corrections officers, meaning that female officers could guard male inmates and male guards could guard female inmates.

This is federal law and Cuyahoga County Jail isn't going to reverse it. "It's working" says Madigan.

No other information is available at this time.
