Back to school: New ways communities are protecting kids

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The start of school is here and as kids are sent back to class, safety is a top priority.

Cleveland 19 News is getting answers on how kids are safer heading back to school this year.

  • RTA rolled out a new texting program that allows users to send a text to dispatch. 216-575-EYES (3937)
  • Safe Routes to Schools is adding stops in East Cleveland. The program is used for students who walk or bike to school. Along students route to school, there are several safe spots at local businesses where kids can stop if they need help.
  • Avon Police will have officers on buses at the start of the school year
