Name released of woman struck by car while riding electric scooter in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - ***UPDATE 8:26 p.m. 8/19/2018***

The victim is from Cleveland, according the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's website.

Jenasia Summers passed away at the age of 21.

The Cleveland Police Department confirms the rider of the electric scooter that was hit by a car on East 9th Street on Saturday night at about 10:00 p.m. has died.

According to police, 19-year-old Scott A. McHugh was driving a Chevy Cruz well in excess of the posted 25 MPH speed limit southbound on East 9th Street while the 21-year-old woman operating an ICON G electric scooter was riding southbound on East 9th Street ahead of the Chevy approaching St. Clair Avenue.

The Chevy reportedly hit the rear of the scooter.

Police say the victim was taken to MetroHealth Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The suspect was not injured, according to police.

However, police say he was taken to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center for evaluation before being booked and housed at the county jail for aggravated vehicular homicide.

Police say the suspect is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.
