Copley, Cuyahoga Falls smash-and-grab jewelry heists appear connected
CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH (WOIO) - What the bold, daylight bandits took were expensive diamonds.
After a weekend robbery it was easy to see things had changed at the Jared Jewelry Cuyahoga Falls location.
A security guard watched the parking lot from the front door, and a glass repair worker was inside taking measurements. The broken jewelry display cases needed replacement glass.
"They had hammers with them," Cuyahoga Falls Detective Lt. Gary Merton said. "They broke out a display case and left with several diamonds from the case."
The investigation starts by finding the answer to a key question. Is this an isolated incident or is it connected to other equally bold robberies?
Specifically, detectives are looking at the July 16th robbery at the Jared store in Copley - four men breaking in, well rehearsed, grabbing and going.
"They have had a similar incident," Merton said. "We're in the early stages so we haven't really connected it to theirs (Copley) yet but there is a good chance that it could be related."
Luckily in both incidents no one was hurt. In Copley the bandits were in and out in 16 seconds, the Cuyahoga Falls heist was quick as well. Police are looking at security cameras that were inside the store. They have not been released yet.
