Broadway Building in Lorain kicking up dust to make way for new hotel
LORAIN COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Broadway Building in downtown Lorain is about to undergo major renovations.
The building, located at the corner of East Erie Avenue and Broadway Avenue, once was the Spitzer Plaza Hotel.
It closed in 2005 putting the building in limbo. It was deteriorating and becoming an eyesore in the city.
A number of partners paved the way for the building to be revitalized.
The historic building will become the Ariel on Broadway by Cobblestone, a 55-room hotel featuring a restaurant, rooftop deck and event center.
The executive director of the Lorain Port Authority and the mayor of Lorain appeared on Cleveland 19's morning show Wake Up Cleveland to talk about the project.
It's a nearly $10 million dollar project and received nearly 2 million dollars tax credit through the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program.
The city held a kickoff event Wednesday morning.
The project is scheduled to be finished by summer of 2019.
