Recycling program gives new life to old toys

HUDSON, Ohio - Hudson-based Little Tikes Co. is trying to give new life to old toys.

The company is starting a toy recycling program with the Summit-Akron Solid Waste Management Authority. Together they will collect plastic toys over two days in May.

The program is expected to keep toys from taking up space in landfills. It also will provide Little Tikes with a low-cost source of raw materials.

Little Tikes spokesman Jim Galvin says that the company will be pleased if the first collection brings in 20,000 pounds of plastic.

The collection is May 5 and May 6 at the now-closed Carter Lumber building in Stow. Participants will get a coupon for a $5 discount when ordering a Little Tikes item online.
