University of Akron approves tuition increases

AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron trustees have approved a 5.7 percent increase in undergraduate tuition and fees, effective this fall.

The increase, approved Wednesday, amounts to $449 and brings annual tuition and fees to $8,383 for students at the main campus.

The trustees also approved a 6 percent increase to graduate student tuition and general fees, and a 20 percent increase in tuition for incoming law students.

Tuition and fees at the university's Summit College and its Wayne College in Orrville are being hiked by 6 percent.

Trustees approved 6 percent increases for room and board.

They also authorized board Chairman John Fink to finalize a new contract, with a salary increase, for university President Luis Proenza. He is currently paid a salary of $281,011.
