Mansfield High School Student Charged With Aggravated Murder

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) - A high school boy who authorities say held a girl at knifepoint and choked her until administrators and teachers were able to distract him and wrestle him away has been charged with attempted aggravated murder.

Prosecutors also charged 17-year-old Matthew Karasko yesterday with kidnapping, four counts of felonious assault and one count of illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone. Karasko is expected to appear in Richland County Juvenile Court in Mansfield next week.

Authorities said Karasko grabbed the 16-year-old girl between classes Wednesday at Ontario High School. A second girl who intervened and an assistant principal received minor cuts.
