Driver Suspended For Leaving Child On Bus

NEWARK, Ohio (AP) - School officials in Newark in central Ohio say a bus driver will be punished for leaving a kindergartner asleep on her bus.

Shirley McDonald will be suspended three days without pay.

School officials say that when McDonald and an aide left the bus in the transportation garage Monday, they failed to follow procedure and walk to the back of the bus before leaving.

The school realized the boy was absent and called his mother, who said her son had gotten on the bus. A transportation worker then found the boy asleep on the bus. He was alone for about 35 minutes.

The bus driver's aide also is facing discipline, which hasn't been disclosed.
