EXCLUSIVE: Mayor Of Norton Resigns Following Arrest

Bay Village, OH - The Mayor of Norton has resigned following an O.V.I. aresst on St. Patrick's Day.  Mr. James Price, President of Council, will be sworn in as Mayor at a time to be determined Monday afternoon.

The former Mayor released this statement on Monday:

"I submit this statement today to inform the good citizens of the City of Norton that it is with great regret that I will be resigning as the Mayor of Norton effective as of noon today, March 19, 2007. I apologize to the residents, to the staff, and especially to my family and friends for my actions of this past weekend. I was involved in an incident that was unprofessional to the position that I hold and instead of trying to nullify my actions, I believe it is in the best interest of the City to resign.

When I first took the oath as Mayor three and a half years ago, I resolved to focus on moving the City forward to the best of my ability. I hope that this spirit continues. The leadership of the City will be in good hands. In passing my duties of this office over to the President of Council, Mr. Price will have a profound responsibility to the community. I ask that he receives the cooperation, patience and support of the public to continue Norton's positive progression.

To those who have stood with me during these past difficult months, to my family, to my friends, I will be eternally grateful for your support. And to those who have not supported my decisions during my office, let me say that I hold no resentment toward those whose opinions have differed from mine. It is what makes this Country great. Thank you very much."

Respectfully, Joseph M. Kernan
