Police: Reported Post Office Shooting a Hoax

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - Police searched Youngstown's main post office from top to bottom last evening after a report that a holdup man had fired a shot through a window.

Police Chief Jimmy Hughes now says the call was apparently a hoax. Investigators are trying to determine whether there's a connection to two other phony reports authorities received last night about robberies that were supposedly in progress.

Police took the call about the post office very seriously. About three dozen postal employees were evacuated, and a police dog unit was brought in to scour the building while officers with rifles watched the exits from the roof.
