Church Steeple, Sprayed With Bullet Holes, Removed In Massillon

MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) - There's one less place for the pigeons to roost in Massillon (MAS'-ih-lawn) in northeast Ohio.

Yesterday the replacement 1960's steeple of Saint Joseph Catholic Church was removed by a crane. The 40-foot steeple in turn will be replaced with Gothic-style posts in keeping with the church's original design.

The steeple had about 17 bullet holes from people who tried to shoo away pigeons over the years.

About 20 parishioners watched the steeple removal, then prayed together and shared pizza.
