Ohio Job Agency Warns of Food Stamp Scam

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is warning people who receive food stamps to watch out for a scam.

The department said Saturday that people are canvassing neighborhoods without power and posing as county employees seeking to provide assistance with replacement benefits. The scammers are asking people for their dates of birth and Social Security numbers.

The official department form for replacement benefits only asks for a name, address and the reason for seeking the benefits.

The department says anyone approached and asked for sensitive information should refuse and report the incident to law enforcement.
