Self Defense: Would-Be Kidnap Victim Saves Self With Purse

Westlake, OH - A would-be kidnap victim foiled her attacker's plans by hitting him with her purse and escaping potential harm.

28-year-old David Guadarrama Mancilla attempted to abduct a 24-year-old Lorain woman as she reported to work at the Lutheran Home . She struck him with her purse and broke free from his grasp, then called 911.

Westlake officers spotted him on Dover Center Road and signaled him to stop; he fled and entered I90 eastbound at Crocker Road. Rocky River PD deployed stop sticks on I90 near Detroit Road.

The suspect's car became disabled on the McKinley Road. exit ramp. The suspect ran, but was caught on Fernway Avenue a short time later.

One Westlake officer sustained a minor foot injury during the pursuit and arrest; no medical treatment was required.

The victim was also unhurt.

The suspect will be arraigned in the Rocky River Municipal Court on kidnapping-related charges. He also has an active 2004 North Olmsted PD warrant for minor traffic charges.
