County To Charge Prison Inmates

MEDINA, Ohio (AP) - Medina County prisoners could be paying up to $60 a day for being in jail.

County finance Director Chris Jakab said that the county could bring in $70,000 a year from the effort.

Jakab said that all of the inmates in the 256-bed jail will have to pay a one-time fee of up to $50 when they are booked.

Inmates later found not guilty will be refunded that amount and any other money that they might have paid.

The estimated $70,000 that the county might recoup is small compared with the jail's $3.5 million budget.
