Brooklyn Heights non-profit helps thousands of families, immigrants in need of furniture
BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) - A faith leader is helping immigrants and families get a fresh start in Northeast Ohio, but, it’s not possible without donations.
Three months ago, Mariana Sorochynska and her boyfriend escaped the war in Ukraine and came to Cleveland.
Sorochynska said she was worried about how they would furnish their home and turned to I’m In Ministry.
“When we moved here we had nothing. This organization kindly helped us with all the furniture. So we didn’t have to sleep and eat on the floor,” said Sorochynska.
Deacon Lou Primozic started the Brooklyn Heights non-profit nine years ago. Since then, he’s helped thousands of families and other organizations.
“At I’m In Ministry, we repurpose furniture as well as other advocacy services for people that are in great need. Here we are today, picking up furniture from a house in Parma, Ohio. The furniture we’re taking out of this house will be delivered to someone who is in great need over the next couple of days,” said Primozic.
“It’s good to know that more people are going to get use out of it and make their own memories with it,” said Darlene Coletta, who donated her parents furniture to the ministry on Tuesday.
Many recipients like Sorochynska are so moved they come back to work for the non-profit.
“It’s a real good thing to know that you’re helping people,” said Sorochynska.
