Arraignment for driver accused in hit and run accident that injured 2 Cleveland Water employees

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The driver accused of hitting two Cleveland Water Department employees while they were repairing a water main break, was arraigned in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Tuesday.

Lorenzo Martin pleaded not guilty to two counts of vehicular assault and two counts of not stopping after an accident. His bond was set at $25,000.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. on Feb. 13 at S. Miles Road and Langly Avenue in the city’s Lee Seville neighborhood.

Cleveland police said Martin, 61, of Maple Heights, drove into a coned off work-zone, struck both men, and then fled the scene.

With the assistance of the Real Time Crime Center, Cleveland police officers located Martin in Maple Heights less than an hour after the crash and took him in custody.

Both victims, a 55-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, were transported by Cleveland EMS to a local hospital.

Their names and conditions have not been released.

Martin will return to court on March 6 for a pre-trial.
