EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Former East Cleveland Acting Mayor Sandra Morgan won by a landslide in Tuesday’s primary election.
She will face off in November against the current mayor, Lateek Shabazz, who finished second in Tuesday’s election.
The contenders on the primary ballot were:
- Sean Ward
- Juanita Gowdy
- Vidah Aminah Saeed
- Former interim mayor Sandra Morgan
- Current mayor Lateek Shabazz
This past July, former East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King was sentenced to three years probation and 100 hours of community service.
King must also pay $27,000 in restitution and is banned from serving in an elected position.

On May 29, a jury found King guilty of the following charges:
- One count of theft in office
- Four counts of unlawful interest in a public contract
- Three counts of misrepresentation by a public employee
- One count of filing a false disclosure
- One count of soliciting improper compensation
Morgan was appointed by a judge as interim mayor after King’s conviction.
Shabazz then claimed the role as his, saying as council president he was next in line.
In July, a Cuyahoga County Court of Appeals ruled in Shabazz’s favor.
