Hambden Township firefighter severely burned after his Montville Township home explodes
MONTVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) - A Hambden Township firefighter and his daughter were injured during a house explosion in Montville Township on Friday afternoon.
Montville Township Fire Chief Ron Jonovich said firefighters were called to the home in the 15,000 block of Hart Road around 2:40 p.m.
When crews arrived on scene, the home was completely engulfed in flames.
Multiple agencies from three counties provided mutual aid, sending tankers and ambulances.
Chief Jonovich said they were told by a daughter, who was uninjured in the fire, that her father was in the basement working on the furnace when the house exploded.
The firefighter was flown to MetroHealth Hospital with severe burns. The injured daughter was taken to MetroHealth Hospital by ambulance.
Two dogs were in the house at the time of the fire. One was found deceased; the other has not been located.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal and the Red Cross were called to the scene.
