North Canton police charge 15-year-old who shot himself in hand with breaking into car, stealing gun
NORTH CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - North Canton police said a shooting investigation has resulted in officers arresting three teenagers, including one who shot himself in the hand.
Officers responded just before 3:40 a.m. Thursday to a home in the 1000 block of Liberty Lane Avenue NW after a mother called 911 saying her son, a 15-year-old, was shot.
The 15-year-old was taken to a local hospital for treatment shortly after police arrived.
Officers said the teen did not say much about the shooting, but did share that he was with two others at the time.
Police started to piece together what happened by Friday.
According to officers, the 15-year-old was hanging out with a 14-year-old boy and 18-year-old man that night.
Police said the 15-year-old broke into a car, stole a gun and ultimately shot himself in the hand.
Officers searched a home and later recovered the suspected weapon.
The 15-year-old is now in custody and facing charges of theft, tampering with evidence, breaking and entering, using weapons while intoxicated, falsification, obstruction, and underage consumption.
The other teens are charges with theft and underage consumption, according to police.
