Cleveland Homicide Unit takes over after shooting turns deadly

The Cleveland Police Department said a shooting on East 69th Street on June 12 is now a homicide investigation.

Sergeant Jennifer Ciaccia said officers found 53-year-old Calvin Hamm Jr. around 4:45 p.m. on the 6800 block of East 69th Street.

Ciaccia said Hamm was found in the front yard bleeding from h is chest.

Police said 48-year-old Antonio Odoms was standing next to him.

Investigators said Odoms was arrested.

Authorities said Hamm was taken to a local hospital by EMS.

Odoms was indicted for felonious assault, Ciaccia said.

Hamm died from his injures on July 6, according to police.

Police said Hamm's death was ruled a homicide by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner on July 23.

Investigators said the Homicide Unit will handle the case.

Authorities said detectives will work with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office on new charges.
