3-year-old dies after accidentally shooting self in Brunswick Hills, police say

BRUNSWICK HILLS, Ohio (WOIO) - A three-year-old boy died after he accidentally shot himself in the chest with an unsecured gun in Brunswick Hills Wednesday afternoon.

According to the police report, the gun fell off a work bench.

The shooting happened in the 900 block of Marks Road around 5:40 p.m.

Brunswick Hills Police Chief Tim Sopkovich said the child was taken by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center where he succumbed from his injuries later that evening.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Maxwell Lamatrice.

Chief Sopkovich said when the investigation is complete it will be sent to the Medina County Prosecutor’s office for review.

There are no charges or arrests at this time, said Chief Sopkovich.
