1 dead following Stark County apartment fire: Fire Chief
JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - One person died Saturday following a Stark County apartment fire, according to investigators.
Jackson Township Fire Chief Tim Berczik says crews found the victim inside of the blazing building, located on Harris Avenue NW, after receiving the call at 9:47 p.m.
Berczik says the department transported the victim to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center where they later died.
The victim has not been identified.
“Our hearts go out to the family that lost a loved one today,” Berczik says. “We want to urge all of our residents to have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and if you hear those alarms sound, please, get out, stay out and close the doors on the way out.”
Jackson Police Department detectives and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire’s cause.
