2 Akron Facebook Marketplace robberies within hours of each other, police say
AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Akron police are investigating two separate robberies that originated with a sale on Facebook Marketplace Tuesday.
The first robbery happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Wilber Avenue.
The 24-year-old victim, police say, was meeting with a would-be buyer to sell his ATV.
Police say one of the three suspects had a handgun and toon the ATV at gunpoint while the other suspects fled on foot.
Officers say they located a 17-year-old riding the stolen ATV in the 1000 block of Ackley Street about 15 minutes after the robbery.
The suspect was arrested without incident, police say.
According to the police report, he was charged with robbery and receiving stolen property and booked into the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Police are working to identify the two other suspects, officials say.
A second robbery happened hours later at 8 p.m. in the 800 block of Vernon Odom Boulevard.
A 27-year-old man met a presumed seller to buy a PlayStation 5, according to the police report.
The victim told police hat he transferred an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect.
Officials say the suspect did not hand over a PlayStation and instead pulled out a gun and told the victim to leave.
The victim left uninjured and drove away to meet the police at another location.
Police are working to identify the suspect or suspects involved.
