George Floyd’s uncle attends Cleveland wrongful imprisonment rally
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Wrongful Imprisonment Day is every October 2nd, and local advocates are trying to make a change to the system.
It’s Jeanna Kenney’s 4th year hosting a rally in downtown Cleveland, during National Wrongful Imprisonment Day.
“I don’t care what day of the week, what the weather is out here– we will be down here, again and again, and again because unfortunately, wrongful convictions is not drying up anytime soon,” Kenney said.
“We are already decades beyond trying to find a solution for these wrongful convictions. We will no longer, no more tolerate the shenanigans out of this injustice center.”
George Floyd’s uncle, Selwyn Jones was in attendance. He says that police brutality and wrongful convictions are in the same rim.
“They’re dying, inside of a cage,” Jones said.”They cannot get out to fight for themselves, and that’s the problem. We have to keep fighting, we have to keep having their name said.”
According to the Innocence Project, they’ve helped more than 250 wrongfully convicted people out of prison.
