Browns fans' negative, positive reactions after Watson carted off field in tears

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A shocking reaction by some Browns' fans accused of cheering as quarterback Deshaun Watson was injured.

It happened during Sunday’s 21 to 14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Watson likely suffered an Achilles tendon tear to his right leg with less than two minutes left in the first half of the game.

Sports experts say the serious injury would likely end his season. His teammates gave him only to be encouragement, as Watson was carted off the field in tears.

“I’m mad because the fans cheered when he got hurt,” said Browns fan Eric. “We’re losing games, but you don’t cheer when somebody gets hurt. No matter what.”

Watson’s teammate, backup quarterback Jameis Winston, said it’s shameful to kick a man when he’s down.

“I am very upset with the reaction to a man that has had the world against him for the past four years -- and he put his body and life on the line for this city every single day,” said Wintson. “He committed every single day that I’ve been here to be the best that he can for this team.”

Retired Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs, interviewed on the show The Fifth Quarter, said, “As fans, we didn’t have to do that. It was overkill.”
