Decades-old missing person’s case still haunts Elyria investigators

ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) - The 1995 disappearance of 17-year-old Christine Kingsley continues to baffle Elyria police, who are still seeking answers nearly three decades later.

Kingsley was last seen at a juvenile holding facility in Elyria in June 1995.

The facility no longer exists.

Detective Steven Robinson, who began reviewing the case in 2015, described the initial files as a disorganized “mess.”

“Parts of these reports... they’re 30-years-ago… not everything is all there,” Robinson said.

Despite the challenges, Robinson meticulously reorganized the files, hoping to find new leads.

Kingsley, who was considered a habitual runaway, had a court date scheduled for the day she vanished.

“Christine Kingsley had a really challenging childhood,” Robinson said.

At the time of her disappearance, Kin.5″ tall with blonde hair and blue eyes.

She would be 46 years old today,

Age-progression photos have been released to show what she might look like now.

“I think it’s possible [she’s still out there],” Robinson said.

“I’m an optimistic person and I hope that one day we can find that answer.”

Kingsley has a surviving sister who is desperate for closure.

Police hope that renewed attention on the case, including through social media, may yield new information.
