Pedestrian struck by Lorain police cruiser

LORAIN, Ohio (WOIO) - A Lorain police officer struck a woman who walked into the road, while transporting a person under arrest in a marked cruiser.

Lorain Police Captain Jacob Morris said the accident happened at 10:09 p.m. Tuesday on Broadway Avenue near the intersection of W. 32nd Street.

According to Captain Morris, the officer was driving south on Broadway Avenue when the woman entered the roadway.

The officer swerved, but still struck the woman with the front driver’s side of the cruiser, said Captain Morris.

The woman sustained “noticeable” injuries, but was “alert and aware” when transported by Lifecare EMS to UH Elyria Medical Center.

Captain Morris added the incident is under investigation by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and the Lorain Police Investigations Bureau.

At this time, no charges have been filed.
