Woman arrested for 2024 murder of 70-year-old Elyria man

LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A 44-year-old woman is now in custody for the 2024 murder of a 70-year-old Elyria man.

Elyria Police Captain Gerald Lantz confirmed Jennifer Martin was arrested in California in September 2024 and recently extradited back to Lorain County to face charges in connection with the death of Daniel Powers.

Martin is charged with felonious assault and murder.

On Feb. 17, 2024, Elyria police officers responded to the victim’s home in the 100 block of Ashwood Ave., for a report of an unresponsive man.

Powers died at University Hospitals on Feb. 26, 2024.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner ruled Powers died of diffuse anoxic encephalopathy, a brain injury.

According to the Elyria police report, officers were also called out to Powers’ home on Feb. 11, 2024 after a 911 call for an unresponsive person.

Martin is currently locked up at the Lorain County Jail.
