2 Elyria schools return to ‘normal operations’ after car’s mechanical issues mistaken for gunfire
ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) - Elyria Catholic High School and St. Jude Catholic returned to “normal operations” Wednesday after a car’s mechanical issues were mistaken for gunshots outside the schools.
According to Elyria Police, at 11:19 a.m. officers received a call from Elyria Catholic High School reporting gunfire outside the building near Poplar Street.
Officers arrived at the school performed a check of the area, did a walkthrough of the school and spoke to faculty, students and safety staff.
According to a Facebook post, officers learned that a vehicle driving by the school had mechanical issues that were mistaken as gunfire.
Both Elyria Catholic High School and St, Jude Catholic School were advised of the outcome of the investigation and have returned to the normal school day.
The area is also safe for travel, according to police.
