Cleveland Monsters come up short to Hershey Bears 4-3
Monsters are now 28-18-5-5 and in third place in North Division standings.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Cleveland Monsters once again found themselves playing from behind, and fell to the Hershey Bears 4-3.
The Monsters welcomed their second largest crowd of the season on Saturday, hosting 15,828 fans and 585 dogs for Pucks and Paws day at Rocket Arena.
Hershey’s Mike Vecchione scored at 15:23 on the power play in the first period leaving Cleveland trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Bears would still have a 1-0 lead following a scoreless second period. In the third, Cole Clayton fired a shot that was tipped by Trey Fix-Wolansky and ended up going in off the skate of Luca Del Bel Belluz to tie the game up 1-1.
The Bears responded quickly with a power-play goal from Ivan Miroshnichenko at 8:52, but Monsters answered in this active third period.
Joseph LaBate scored at 11:21 off feeds from Clayton and Mikael Pyyhtia to tie the game 2-2.
Hershey pulled ahead with a goal from Ethan Bear at 12:21 followed by an empty-net tally from Vincent Iorio at 18:58.
Cleveland would have one final goal at 19:59, Del Bel Belluz scored with a helper from Fix-Wolansky, but the Monsters lost 4-3.
Monsters’ Zach Sawchenko made 19 saves in defeat while Hershey’s Hunter Shepard stopped 21 shots for the win.
Up next the Monsters travel to visit the Texas Stars at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
