Volunteer Springfield Township firefighter indicted on sex crimes
He faces similar charges out of Mahoning County
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - A part-time volunteer Springfield Township firefighter was indicted on multiple sex crimes Thursday.
According to Portage County Common Pleas Court records, 28-year-old Brian T. Swansiger was indicted on two counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery, two counts of gross sexual imposition and kidnapping.
The indictment alleges the crimes occurred on Jan. 1.
Swansiger is also facing rape charges out of Mahoning County after he was secrectly indicted on Jan. 16.
A pretrial for that case is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 10 a.m.
Springfield Township Fire Chief Michael Wright shared that Swansiger had been on unpaid administrative leave since the fall of 2023.
“Obviously, we cooperate with all law enforcement agencies; however, Springfield Fire is not privileged to information in ongoing criminal operations,” Wright told 19 News.
Swansiger is set to be arraigned in the Portage County Common Pleas Court on June 2 at 11 a.m.
