MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - A Memphis woman is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of a 3-year-old child.

Dominica Mosby, 29, has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect.

Authorities said the charges stem from a situation last Saturday where a 911 call was made after the child’s father found the 3-year-old unresponsive at an area residence.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court records stated that Mosby, identified as the father’s girlfriend, initially told police she had put the boy to bed after he was sick. However, she later confessed to homicide investigators that she had inflicted severe abuse on the child, including placing a lit cigarette in his ear and burning his genitals after he urinated on the floor.

She also admitted to repeatedly beating the child, stomping and hitting him on his torso and chest, when he did not obey her.

The medical examiner determined the boy’s cause of death to be homicide, records shared.

Authorities said the autopsy revealed the child suffered lacerations to the liver, internal bleeding in the stomach, bruising on his torso, and burns to his ear and genitals.

The child’s aunt told investigators she had noticed injuries on the child before.

Mosby is currently being held without bond as she awaits her next court appearance.
