WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ/Gray News) - The world’s oldest bus driver is still behind the wheel and even getting worldwide attention.

Raymond Hagar says every stop is a reminder of why he still works. He’s 95 years old and doesn’t get tired of hitting the city streets.

Hagar has driven many routes during his nearly three decades of bus driving in Wichita Falls and has had his hands on the gears for nearly his entire life.

“I just don’t get tired of driving. I just don’t know why, but I get more tired at home than I do driving. Honestly. If I get about four or five hours of sleep, I’m good,” he said.

And what keeps him going? Some could say his positive attitude.

“I don’t know if I ever just dreaded coming to work. For the most part, I’ve liked it. Of course, it’s been off days, bad days, but it’s been a good experience,” Hagar said.

With each ride, safety is his number one concern.

“You just can’t be too careful because if you don’t, something is going to reach out and get you,” he said.

This week, Hagar was recognized by the city for his 27 years of driving city buses and for his contribution to city transportation, along with officially being acknowledged by the Guinesses World Records for being the oldest active bus driver.

He says it was an unforgettable moment

“It’s kind of like a dream, a good dream,” Hagar said. “It’s hard for me to soak in yet, and I had no idea that they were going to do all of this.”
