CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) - A parent is accusing a staff member at Noble Elementary School of attacking her 8-year-old son following recess on Wednesday.

Noah Redrick, a third grader who is blind in his left eye, said the incident happened as students lined up to re-enter the school after recess. He said he turned around with classmates to see what he believed were two students fighting when a staff member grabbed him.

“She grabbed me by the back of the neck and pulled me and flinged me to the back of the line. I fell and hurt my eye,” Noah said.

The boy said he feels sad and mistreated by what happened.

Mother says son traumatized

Noah’s mother, Djaye Redrick, said her son is traumatized and she’s upset saying school personnel did not notify her until three hours after the alleged attack.

“She shook him with so much force that my son has been complaining about his head and his eyes hurting as well. I feel like horrible because I send my kids to be in good hands and be protected,” Djaye Redrick said.

She said her son no longer wants to go to school.

District confirms investigation

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District confirmed to 19 News there is an investigation underway.

In a statement, the district said in part: “The District is currently investigating an isolated allegation of misconduct involving a staff member that occurred on November 19 as students lined up to re-enter the school after recess. We are reviewing video evidence and witness statements as a part of our investigation and in coordination with law enforcement.”

Noah’s mother said she has not been allowed to view the videotape because other children are in it and there are federal privacy laws.

The district told Noah’s mother in text messages viewed by 19 News that their goal is to determine what happened and enforce the district’s code of conduct to its fullest.
