Cleveland Monsters edge Toronto Marlies in shootout

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Cleveland Monsters defeated the Toronto Marlies 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night, improving to 27-16-6-1 and holding onto third place in the AHL’s North Division.
Jordan Dumais scored twice for the Monsters, including the tying goal late in regulation. Luca Del Bel Belluz converted the game-winner in the second round of the shootout.
Toronto’s Logan Shaw opened the scoring with a goal at 18:00 of the first period. The Marlies held their 1-0 lead through a scoreless second period before the Monsters answered.
Dumais broke through at 4:38 of the third with an assist from Zach Aston-Reese and Will Butcher. He added his second goal at 11:55, set up by Brendan Gaunce, before Toronto’s Jacob Quillan pulled the Marlies within one at 18:31 to force overtime.
Neither team scored in the extra period, sending the game to the shootout.
Ivan Fedotov made 23 saves for Cleveland. Toronto’s Dennis Hildeby stopped 17 shots.
The Monsters host the Rochester Americans on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Rocket Arena.
