CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland launched a new program to boost education about taxpayer filing requirements for those who live and/or work in the city on Monday.

The new FILE initiative, which stands for Filing Income Locally and Efficiently, is described by the city of Cleveland as a “comprehensive communications and outreach strategy that aims to increase awareness of tax requirements, and offers direct support to tax payers.”

Cleveland is part of the regional tax collection organization called the Central Collection Agency, which collects income taxes on behalf of local municipalities.

The FILE initiative was created after community feedback showed those who live and/or work in the area were confused about tax the filing requirements.

“This time of year is known for two things – madness on the basketball court and stress associated with tax-iety, which is why we’re putting on a full-court press to educate our community about our local tax requirements,” CCA Income Tax Administrator Danielle Clark stated. “We know, from previous conversations and taxpayer interactions, that we need to get better at raising awareness in our community on this topic – and are planning to address these challenges head-on through our new FILE initiative.”
