Man indicted for alleged attack at Toledo bar that left victim with ‘major brain trauma’ seeking insanity defense

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The man who police say was responsible for a bar fight that left the victim with ‘major brain trauma’ is seeking an insanity defense.

Joseph Ochoa, 28, of Toledo is scheduled for a competency hearing on July 22, according to court documents. On Wednesday, his bond was set at a total of $600,000.

On June 11, Ochoa was indicted on multiple felony charges in connection to the attack, including attempted murder, felonious assault and aggravated robbery, court records show.

Ochoa was arrested for the alleged assault that took place outside Bottom Line Bar on Starr Ave on June 2.

The victim suffered a broken jaw, broken teeth and a broken rib, officials said.

When Ochoa was located, police said they found the victim’s ID and debit card in his possession.
