PARMA, Ohio (WOIO) - Marc’s will close its Parma produce and commissary facility in November and lay off 55 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice.

The notice, sent Thursday by Marc’s parent company, Marc Glassman Inc., said its produce and commissary facility at 12200 Corporate Drive would permanently close operations at that address, and 55 employees would be laid off beginning Nov. 10 or within 14 days of that date.

The notice of the operations closure and layoffs comes as 19 News was notified by Marc Glassman Inc. Friday of its decision to transfer the Parma facility to Indianapolis Fruit within 30 to 60 days, according to a spokesperson from Marc Glassman Inc.

The spokesperson said that in addition to operating the facility, Indianapolis Fruit, part of the food distribution company FreshEdge, will continue to supply fresh produce and commissary goods to all 59 Marc’s locations.

“This move allows Marc’s to focus its resources and attention on servicing its customers- while partnering with a company whose core business is produce distribution,” the spokesperson wrote in a press release. “Marc’s will continue to provide the highest quality name-brand produce for its customers - at prices they can afford.”

The notice noted that the facility is a non-union one and said that Marc’s is helping employees with the impact of the closure by “providing information on job placement and other services, providing information regarding their eligibility for unemployment compensation, and providing them with information about how affected employees may apply for open positions within the company.”
