ROCKY RIVER, OH (WOIO) - A Magnificat High School senior turned author is taking a stand against domestic violence.
Tara Coury just had a book published called The Safe House. Since Coury was a freshman, she has volunteered as an art therapist at the Domestic Violence Child Advocacy Center of Cleveland. It was during her volunteer work where the idea for a book was born.
"There's books about fighting or emotion like anger, but nothing really geared towards going to a shelter," Coury said.
One thing she noticed was just how tough it was for kids to transition to shelter life.
"A lot of the kids, the stories, they're all different, but you hear a lot of the same kinds of things," Coury said.
All the proceeds from the book will go to the DVAC of Cleveland.
Coury is also one of Magnificat's commended students, as named by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
