U of Akron linebacker charged with misdemeanor assault

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - A linebacker for the University of Akron football team has been charged with misdemeanor assault in Akron Municipal Court.
The charge stems from a May fight.
Brian Bell punched a 24-year-old Ravenna man in the face shortly after meeting him, according to a police report. The victim allegedly had a disagreement with one of Bell's friends.
The victim says Bell yelled at him and sucker punched him in the face. The victim was taken to Akron General and had a cut on his nose and his eyes were swollen.
The case was sent to the prosecutor, who filed the assault charges on Sept. 21.
Bell will be arraigned Sept. 30.
