Mother uniquely punishes kids for memorial vandalism

BARBERTON, OH (WOIO) - Two brothers are paying a big price for the vandalism they did to a memorial in Barberton.

"My two little boys decided to sneak out of the house last Sunday morning with their friend and ripped flowers out of the Military Memorial at Lake Anna in Barberton," said Mother and Bar Shannon Bartender Alicia Sharp.

As the person responsible for the action of her kids, Sharp decided to immediately take action.

"I made them stand with signs down by the lake for two hours on Friday saying what they did and apologizing," Sharp continued.

She said her kids holding those signs just wasn't enough for what they did to this memorial. So she decided to hit them where it would really hurt, their pockets.

"They also donated their allowances so I could buy feed most of the folks who come in here are veterans," added Sharp.

Each son gave a months worth of allowance totaling $100 all together.

"It wasn't right for what they did. But kids are kids," Dan Ady said.

He's just happy their mother is trying to make things right.

"She's trying to make up for it. She's done a good job and she feels sorry about this too," added Ady.

Hopefully her kids feels the same.

"They are starting to realize the severity of what they've done. I don't think initially they did. Now they're starting to realize why those flowers were there and why those people's names were on that wall," concluded Sharp.
