Funeral arrangements announced for mother and daughter killed in Mayfield Heights

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Arrangements to say good-bye to Rebecca Pletnewski and her young daughter Olivia Schneider who were tragically killed in Mayfield Heights on Tuesday have been made.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, 41-year-old Pletnewski was murdered in her home before it was set on fire, killing 8-year-old Schneider.

Pletnewski’s obituary says “Rebecca was a dedicated and respected MICU nurse at University Hospital. She was passionate about the environment and social activism. Her big smile and infectious laugh endeared her to a large circle of loyal friends.”

Pletnewski was also the mother to a 4-year-old daughter named Vivienne. Fortunately, Vivienne was not in the house when the fire was set.

Schneider was a third grader at Lander Elementary School in Mayfield. Her obituary says “Olivia loved being a big sister. She had many interests including cheerleading, horseback riding, singing, dancing, art and science. She enjoyed her family get-togethers.”

The obituaries say Pletnewski and Schneider’s wake will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25 at Schulte & Mahon-Murphy Funeral Home located at 5252 Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst.

Their funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26 at Gesu Church of University Heights on 2470 Miramar Boulevard.

Following the mass will be the burial at Lake View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers for Pletnewski, the family requests contributions to the Memorial Fund for her daughter Vivienne on GoFundMe.

In lieu of flowers for Schneider, donations are asked to be made to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
