CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - 19-year-old Luis Rodriguez-Rivera was fatally shot Sunday night about a mile away from where Cleveland Police Det. James Skernivitz was killed last week.

Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said officers were called to West 43rd Street and Storer Avenue for shots fired at approximately 9:43 p.m. on Sunday night.

Johnny Cosme was in his home on Storer Avenue when the shooting happened. He said “I just looked outside and I saw the dude laying in the street. I guess somebody called the cops [because] they were here pretty quick.” He said he saw the victim in the street directly in front of his house. He said police are reviewing surveillance video from the cameras outside his home.

When first responders arrived, they found the 19-year-old victim lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Sgt. Ciaccia.

EMS took him to MetroHealth Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m., according to the report.

Members of the Homicide Investigation Unit learned the victim may have been in an altercation with the shooter while at a gathering at a Storer Avenue home, Ciaccia said.

Ciaccia confirmed no arrests have been made as police continue to investigate.

Skernivitz and a man he was with, Scott Dingess, were killed Thursday night at West 65th Street and Storer Avenue.
