Orange police officer injured in altercation with hotel guest

ORANGE, Ohio (WOIO) - An Orange police officer was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after getting into a physical altercation with a hotel guest, police said.
According to Orange Village Lt. Mike Roberts, police were called to the Extended Stay America Hotel in the 3800 block of Orange Place around 11:52 a.m. for an unwanted guest, who was identified as a 26-year-old male transient, that was being disrespectful to staff.
When the officer arrived, Lt. Roberts said the suspect produced an edged weapon and attacked the officer without warning or provocation.
The officer was able to subdue the suspect with their taser, then took him into custody.
The suspect was transported to UH Ahuja Medical Center. Police said they will release his identity once he is formally charged.
The officer’s name has also not been released, but police officials said they suffered numerous non-life-threatening lacerations to the head, neck and hand. They are expected to make a full recovery.
