Lubrizol plant incident closes state Routes 44, 2 among several Lake County
LAKE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A hot tank truck delivery to the Lubrizol plant in Painesville caused the closure of several state routes and roads in Lake County on Saturday.
Lubrizol said in a statement that the delivery had temperatures above handling guidelines.
Lake County Emergency Management Agency said the delivery occurred at 5:30 p.m.
Lake County EMA said water was being applied to bring the temperature down.
Lubrizol said the delivery posed no risk to the surrounding community.
Lake County EMA is working with local agencies to monitor the status of the incident.
Fire and EMS crews from Painesville, Lake County, Wickliffe, Concord, Grand River and Willoughby are on scene providing mutual aid.
Road Closures
State Route 44 and State Route 2 and other roads in Lake County are closed Saturday evening out of precaution for an incident at the Lubrizol plant in Painesville, according to the city of Mentor.
The city said in a Facebook post that the road closures are a precaution for the incident at the plant.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office posted on X, announcing the state route and road closures, saying the closures were for a large-scale event.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said State Route 44 is closed from Route 84 to Route 2 in both directions.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said State Route 2 eastbound and westbound from Richmond Street to Heisley Road will be closed.
According to OHGO, all lanes on State Route 2 west of State Route 283 and Richmond Street will be closed because of another incident.

The sheriff’s office added that Newell Street from West Jackson to Blackbrook is also closed.
The office said Blackbrook from Newell Street to Heisley Road is closed.
The sheriff’s office advises people to avoid the area for the time being.
